TWU Safety Team Alert
Please be aware that we have received numerous reports of FAA and TSA performing "spot -checks" onboard our aircraft. These “tests” of your safety and security duties are usually in the form of questioning your knowledge, and compliance with Federal Aviation and Transportation Security Regulations. This testing may be accomplished by challenging you on the proper stowage areas for carry-on luggage, or the TSA boarding your aircraft on the first flight of the day verifying that the security check was performed, and that the Crew knows the elements of the security check.

Regulatory Inspectors (this includes the TSA) may ask you to produce your Manual, required duty items, and/or test your knowledge of Southwest Airlines security procedures. All of this activity is perfectly legal and appropriate. It is important for you to know that these regulators have broad latitude on how they may conduct spot checks, check rides, and announced or unannounced audits. If you fail any part of these spot checks, you and/or Southwest Airlines may be subject to enforcement action ranging from verbal warnings to fines. You could also be found in violation of the work and conduct rules, and be subject to discipline should you be found negligent in your safety/security duties.

Do not be found to be complacent or ignorant of your safety and security duties, and do not challenge the FAA or TSA’s authority to oversee our operations.
