Tips On How To Handle The Heat

In the past, summer procedures have usually been delivered towards the end of May as we prepare for the summer months of flying. Given the rising temperatures and wild shifts in weather from day to day at many cities served by Southwest Airlines, our TWU Local 556 Safety Committee is sending out this reminder about combating hot aircraft and your rights as Crew Members moving into the summer months.

2025 Expanded Safety Team

In March 2025, a call for Letters of Interest was sent to all Members via email and social media for applications to join the first-ever expanded Safety Committee. On April 1, 2025, our Safety Committee Chairperson, Vice-Chairperson, and Health Committee Chairperson read and evaluated each applicant’s letter.

REAL ID, What You Need To Know

After the attacks on September 11, 2001, the United States Congress began developing standards for state-issued driver’s licenses and identification (ID) cards to enhance security and prevent identity fraud. In 2005, the REAL ID Act was passed. This federal law mandates that state-issued ID cards meet specific requirements to be accepted for accessing secure facilities and boarding commercial flights. Through the years, the program has been delayed due to some states taking longer to implement the changes.

Safety Committee Expansion Opportunity

When I applied for the Safety Committee Chairperson after being elected in 2024, I committed to growing the Safety Committee during my term. Since assuming the role of Chairperson, we have increased the Committee size from three to six.
