On September 25, 2024, your TWU Local 556 Safety Team Members attended a virtual Meeting with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Transportation Security Administration (TSA). On the call as well were representatives from the Allied Pilots Association (APA), the Airline Pilots Association (ALPA), the Association of Flight Attendants (AFA), the Southwest Pilots Association (SWAPA), and other industry partners. Facilitating the call were representatives from the TSA, those overseeing the Known Crew Member (KCM), and future Expedited Crew Access Programs. The purpose of this Meeting was to discuss changes that are just a few weeks away regarding increases in enforcement actions for KCM violations.

On July 23, 2024, TWU Local 556 was made aware that the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) would be performing a Certificate Holder Evaluation Process (CHEP) of Southwest Airlines. The CHEP is an audit which holds an in-depth examination of the Company. This audit is similar to the audits from the past. This audit is industry standard and Southwest has complied with these before. This particular CHEP is focused on Flight Operations given recent safety events. This safety audit will not affect Flight Attendants or the performance of our duties.

On July 11, 2024, Chris Click, Michael Massoni, Elizabeth Leapley, Michele Moore, and Ray Presnall represented TWU Local 556 in a Meeting with high-level leadership of Southwest Airlines, including Rachel Loudermilk, Justin Jones, Wally Devereaux, Matt Sampson, and Steve Murtoff. Additionally, Provisioning was represented by TWU Local 555 President Abillio Villaverde, Vice President Bryan Gaulle, and Safety Chairperson Karl Mager. At this Meeting, TWU Local 556 delivered a strong and determined message that the exploding can issue had reached a critical tipping point, and demanded definitive actions and changes, along with a clear timeline for these changes, to which the Company could be held accountable.
