On April 1, 2025, Crew Planning sent out a video explaining some of the changes that are in play for the April 2025 and May 2025 bid periods. We wanted to address a couple of items and make our position known on Schedule Interruption Points (SIPs), Four-Day Pairings, and the decision to close Satellite Bases.
TWU Local 556 Flight Attendants have had a Commuter Policy in our Contract since our Blue Contract (ratified in 2004). However, protections for Reserve blocks were not introduced until the Purple Contract (ratified in 2009). While Article 33 has been updated and improved throughout the years, the introduction of protections for Reserve assignments was essential, seeing as the bottom 65% of our Flight Attendants are required to sit Reserve in their domicile’s rotation, and even more Flight Attendants pick up Reserve blocks for additional flying (and compensation). Let’s do a quick refresher on the Commuter Policy and how it pertains to a Flight Attendant commuting in for a Reserve block!
With Contract 2024’s Shifted Reserve system, there has been an expansion of Commuter Policy usage to Reserves who are sitting “on-call” shifts. Of the new five (5) shifts of Reserve, three (3) of these shifts can now possibly commute in on the first day of their block only. Let’s take a look at how the Commuter Policy applies to Reserve Flight Attendants… and when it doesn’t apply!
With the Company’s changes to how they built pairings beginning in April 2025, our Education Committee wanted to provide you with a refresher on Article 12: Exchange of Trips. With the reduction of trips in Open Time impacting our ability to trade and adjust our work days, it’s even more important we know the Contract language associated specifically with Article 12.5: Trades with Open Time. This week’s Fast Fact Friday focuses on answering frequently asked questions about trading using Open Time, including restrictions and timelines. Let’s break down Open Time Trading and briefly review the changes to Article 12 in Contract 2024.
One of the greatest parts of our Contract is the flexibility it allows us with our schedules. However, trading with Open Time has some restrictions we must be aware of. Let’s break down trading with Open Time in this week’s Fast Fact Friday!
